PE Extra Curricular Activities

At St. Julian’s School we believe that sport and PE in Primary and Secondary school are extremely important to establishing good physical health and emotional wellbeing of our children. We are dedicated to raising standards in PE and ensuring that more children are becoming more active and engaged in sports. We strongly feel that a fun, varied and competitive PE curriculum and extra-curricular sporting activities have a positive influence on all children and provides a great baseline for an active and healthy future.

In our extra curricular programme we strongly encourage all students to attend our after school extra-curricular programme. We offer sports such as; Football, Basketball and Volleyball. Students are challenged through aesthetic activities such as movement club in lower primary. We also deliver Athletics in the summer term so students have an opportunity to challenge themselves individually.

As a PE department our role is to encourage young people to lead an active and heathy lifestyle demonstrated through engaging and challenging Physical Education lessons and clubs. We aim to help students and provide them with a platform to become well rounded sportsmen and women that can be positive role models within the world of sport.

Extra-curricular activities take place after school from 3.30pm until 4.30 pm in the primary and in the secondary school from 4.00pm until 5.30pm approx. Games and competitions against other local International schools will also take place in certain activities and your child may be selected to represent the St. Julian´s team.

Our clubs are run within year groups or Divisions as with other International schools in Portugal and abroad. The divisions are dependent on the year the student was born.

The age groups for 2018 - 2019 are as follows. Students born in the respective years will be in the following division.

Division 6- 2010/2011

Division 5- 2008/2009

Division 4- 2006/2007

Division 3- 2004/2005

Varsity-  2003–1999

The PE department will be offering fifteen after-school sports clubs on a weekly basis this year from Tuesday 4th September. These clubs are free of charge. We expect students to be committed, motivated, exhibit sportsman ship, be supportive and kind to their peers, punctual and attend weekly. During the season friendly fixtures are arranged between the other Lisbon international schools and this will lead up to divisional tournaments in November at CAISL and at St. Julian´s In March/ April. Information of fixtures will be sent to parents via the coach once fixtures have been arranged. Our policy is that we will give all students an opportunity to represent the team and play. Our coaches will be looking at students who attend weekly training sessions, who work hard, follow instruction and exhibit sportsmanship behaviour to represent our teams. When possible we will always try to take two teams to tournaments and include all students who have trained regularly. Our two teams are made up of a participation team this is a team for students young into the division, who will gain from the experience of being part of a team and who have not had a lot of experience playing, our second team is a competitive team for students who might be at the high end of the division, who have shown good skill and dedication. It is the coach discretion to pick their teams to the best of their knowledge based on trainings and skills. It is very important to us that the students feel part of a team and everyone understands the importance of a team. All students are important either on or off the pitch / court. Parents should support the coaches and understand that their decision is made in the best interests of the school and all students involved.

Primary School Clubs
If your child is interested in attending any of the following clubs, please sign up with the relevant staff via email as soon as possible as there will be limited places in some of the clubs. The coach will pick up students from the primary playground and take them to the courts/pitch and parents should collect their children promptly after the trainings have finished as  coaches will need to go to other commitments.
