Silver Expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
This year saw 58 participants canoeing down the beautiful Zêzere river over three days (18th-20th June) with a training day tagged on just before. Participants held up well, particularly on Day 1 when the cold wind and rain seemed to be blowing the group backwards rather than them moving forwards! Muscles that the participants didn’t know they had were worked hard, paddling 50km towards their goal. All food was carried and prepared by the participants but they rationed well and there were only a few hungry mouths by the end. During Day 3, the clouds became less grey and there were even a few sunny spells towards the end. It’s a pleasure to report that all 58 young people successfully completed the expedition, the final part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for our Year 11 students.
Accompanying the participants were Ms Coates, Ms Cottam, Mr Metelo and Mr Price without whom the expedition could not have run, so thank you to the staff for giving up four days and three nights looking after our students. I must also say a big thank you to José Bruno Catrau and his team at ‘Fun with Work’ a company based in Figueiró do Vinhos who helps to ensure a safe and enjoyable time during the expedition. Enjoy the photos and well done to all that took part!
