Division 4 Volleyball boys and girls

Division 4 Girls and Boys clapping their hands and stomping their feet in unison, the SJS year 7, 6º, 8, 7º Girls and Boys volleyball teams roared with endless enthusiasm and words of encouragement to their teammates during multiple games against PArKIS and SDIS on Friday 18th March afternoon mini get together at SJS. 

This mini-tournament came at a great time to finish the extended season from September to March. For many of these young athletes, this was their first taste of competition for over two years against other schools.

Although we had four teams competing within their respective age groups, the girls and boys considered themselves one team, with all athletes attending practices and games together.

“We are so very proud of the developments and progression they have made, and we have had a wonderful time,” said Coach Rui and Coach Maria. “We think it’s important to offer students the opportunity to play volleyball so they can learn discipline, self-control and self-respect,”

Both coaches said they both love being around their enthusiastic athletes and watching them improve their fundamentals skills.

It was wonderful seeing the transformation of 3 hours of volleyball. We enjoyed seeing the players ‘come out of their shells as they stepped up their intensity on Friday afternoon.

Students have worked hard to help each other out [on the court] and encourage each other [off the court], they have embraced supporting each other by encouraging each other. Even if a player misses a shot, “we encourage them because we have to be positive whether we win or lose.”

The teams did really well with SJS A & SJS B girls teams coming in first and second and the boys SJS team finishing in second losing their set by one point.

After the Easter holidays, students who would still like to continue with volleyball practice can do so on a Friday afternoon between 2.00 pm and 3.30 pm.
