Sports
At St. Julian’s School we believe that sport and PE are extremely important to establishing good physical health and contribute to the emotional wellbeing of our students. We are dedicated to ensuring that children are becoming more active and engaged in sports.
We strongly feel that a fun, varied and competitive PE curriculum and extra-curricular sporting activities have a positive influence on all students, providing a great baseline for an active and healthy future.
All students are welcome to attend our after-school extra-curricular programme, which offers sports such as football, basketball and volleyball, free of charge. Extra-curricular sports take place after school from 3.30 pm until 4.30 pm for students in Primary, and from 4.00 pm until 5.30pm in Secondary. St Julian’s sports teams regularly participate in friendly fixtures and sporting competitions involving other international schools in Portugal and in Europe.
Sports clubs include:
- Movement club (Primary Only)
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Football
More information on the age groups and schedules for each after-school sports club may be obtained by contacting Ms Small, St Julian’s Head of Sports.
St. Julian’s Rugby Club is a non-profit club, based at St. Julian’s School but open to any young player from the local community.
The Club is an affiliated member of the Portuguese Rugby Federation and enters teams at six age groups in tournaments and social events, as well as organising foreign tours and/or overnight trips for all age-groups. Since 2010, tours have been undertaken to Rome, Treviso, Paris, Toulouse, Barcelona, Dublin, Austria, Buenos Aires and South Africa. These tours provide a stimulating environment for our students and result in real growth experiences for all that take part.
Our main aim is to enable players of all abilities and levels of experience to play rugby for the fun and enjoyment of the game itself.
A dedicated team of qualified rugby coaches provide the coaching using a combination of English and Portuguese. The emphasis is on developing teamwork, skills and fitness levels, as well as the traditional rugby values of sportsmanship, courage, self-discipline and respect.
Further information and rugby club news updates can be accessed at the club’s website.
