The Bilingual Curriculum celebrated learning in a showcase of Creativity and Innovation
On a bright and cheerful afternoon, St. Julian's School hosted a remarkable event, organized by the dedicated students and teachers of the bilingual curriculum. This special occasion was designed to highlight the diverse and innovative projects the students have been passionately working on, with a spotlight on the much-anticipated launch of their bilingual book, "The Curse of the Storyteller."
The ceremony was a true reflection of St. Julian's inclusive community, as it was led by students who spoke in Portuguese, English, and Mandarin. This multilingual approach not only celebrated the school's diverse linguistic capabilities but also underscored the importance of cultural inclusivity and communication.
The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the unveiling of "The Curse of the Storyteller," a bilingual book fully written and illustrated by the talented students. This impressive work is not only a testament to the students' creative writing and artistic skills but also an example of their ability to engage in complex, cross-disciplinary projects. The book includes a QR code, which can be scanned to access three accompanying videos: an animated film adaptation of the book, a live performance, and a behind-the-scenes "Making Of" documentary. These multimedia additions provided a comprehensive and immersive experience, showcasing the depth of the students' engagement with the project.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were two delightful musical moments. The audience was treated to three beautifully performed violin pieces by 5º ano, under the direction of Ms. Andrès, demonstrating their budding musical talents and dedication to their craft. Additionally, the talented Yumei Pan captivated everyone with a stunning piano solo, showcasing the school's commitment to fostering artistic skills alongside academic excellence.
The event also served as a platform to display the multiplicity of cross-curricular projects that the students have been involved in throughout the year. Attendees were invited to explore various exhibits that demonstrated the students' involvement in a wide range of innovative and environmentally conscious projects.
One of the standout projects was the composting initiative, which involved all students in the bilingual curriculum. This project emphasized sustainability and environmental responsibility, teaching students the importance of waste management and the benefits of composting for soil health and plant growth. The students proudly explained their process and the impact their efforts have had on the school’s ecosystem.
Another significant project showcased was the hydroponics system, a collaborative effort between 3º and 8º ano students. This project allowed students to delve into the science of soilless farming, learning about plant biology, water conservation, and sustainable agriculture. The hydroponics project included a recorded TED Talk, with students explaining how they worked together to design, build, and maintain it.
Parents were also treated to an exhibition of student artwork, videos, and photographs documenting the various projects undertaken throughout the year. The vibrant art displays, captivating videos, and insightful photographs provided a comprehensive view of the students' hard work, creativity, and dedication to their studies and extracurricular activities.
The afternoon was a resounding success, highlighting the unique strengths of St. Julian's bilingual curriculum. It was a perfect opportunity for parents to witness firsthand the innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education that their children experience every day. The event underscored the importance of collaboration, creativity, and environmental stewardship in modern education.
St. Julian's School is incredibly proud of its students and teachers for their remarkable achievements and looks forward to continuing to foster an environment where creativity and innovation can flourish.
