Deputy Principal Joana Sousa shares her experience of attending the twilight ‘Teaching Learning Course’ specifically designed to support teachers in delivering learning online.

TLC - The Virtual Classroom.

After all of term 3 of last year in remote learning, and with the possibility of it coming back, the need that teachers felt to upskill and ensure sustained motivation and learning in students in a remote setting became an imperative. Therefore, I joined the Teaching and Learning Course (TLC) run by Ana Marques, one of our technology integration specialists, which ran from October to March.

The course ran over three sessions, during which teachers improved and refined their remote lessons and increased opportunities for student engagement. We used  Audience Q&A, a feature of GoogleSlides, Pear Deck add-on for Google Sides, Jamboard, Hyperdocs, advanced Google Forms, Quizlet, among others. Teachers had the opportunity to discuss, collaborate, share and embed their new learning into their teaching practice.

Overall, the course was lively, engaging and productive and took all participants up to another level of promoting better remote learning. The new strategies helped my students activate prior learning, consolidate vocabulary and feel more confident in collaborating and sharing their ideas in writing.
