Looking Ahead On How We Will Be Able To Create A Connection With Our Students And The 6Cs
Compassion, Curiosity, Collaboration, Communication, Courage and Citizenship
Which do you feel is the most important? Which do you think is your strongest asset and which do you need to work on?
As in any ever-evolving organisation, we need the adults in the community to model these attributes first so that our students and children see that they are authentically valued. Therefore, as members of staff, we are beginning to ask ourselves these questions. The wonderful thing about the ‘Shaper Profile’ is that it can be aspirational for everybody - there is no end to compassion, courage or curiosity and the changing contexts in which we live and work mean that there are always new ways we can reflect on and improve these attributes.
The Reason to Believe and 6Cs will be the foundation of everything we do at St. Julian’s and we are already incorporating them into work that is being done on systems to ensure a positive learning environment, for example. The 6Cs (Compassion, Curiosity, Collaboration, Communication, Courage and Citizenship) will be the subject of broad reflections and can even be highlighted in outdoor education activities. Indeed, the highly anticipated Activity Days, which will go ahead in Term 1 (if the current pandemic allows), will provide wonderful opportunities to reflect on some of the 6Cs. For example, how much courage is needed to complete a coasteering course, or Compassion to support a colleague in need?
Having a shared language is one of the most powerful ways that the Reason to Believe and the Shaper Profile can make a difference at St. Julian’s. By doing this we can begin to regularly celebrate the moments when we display the 6Cs and challenge one another when we fall short, and continuously strive to learn and do better.
As we approach the end of a most challenging year, I would like to thank Students, Teachers, Parents for inspiring me every day and having the Courage to continuously move ahead even when facing all the adversity this year showed us. I ask that everyone takes some time to be self-compassionate. It can take courage to be kind to yourself as we are so often very self-critical. The summer is a time to recharge, gain some balance and prepare for the brighter year which lies ahead.
