On Friday 15th October, 51 Y11 students were released into the beautiful Sintra Hills to fend for themselves without the use of technology. This of course had a purpose; to qualify for the Adventurous Journey section of their Bronze DofE Award. Students drew on previous learning, preparation, knowledge and common sense to find their way to basic civilization at Pedra Amarela Campsite.

Map reading, orienteering, observation and collaboration were skills the students had to utilise and develop in this expedition. Some were lost, some were tired, some created motivational chants and some had minor injuries, but all were thrilled to complete the first day of their expedition, and they were ready to do it again on Saturday 16th. After 2 long days trekking through tough terrain and a stunning national park, students reached the finish point, relieved and fatigued.

Both students and staff have been challenged physically, mentally and socially and they have all survived with many stories to share. The energy, excitement and gratitude from students continue to motivate the team of staff that support participants throughout the preparation, final expeditions, and the other valuable sections of the award. Everyone's effort help guide students through their qualification and memories of a lifetime have been created for all.
