Y2 visit the “Wild Things” at the Lisbon Zoo
Year 2 took a trip to the Lisbon Zoo, as part of our topic Wild Things. The aim was to see the animals and their habitats we had been learning about in class. It was our first trip on a bus as a year group so the children were very excited. After arriving in the morning we went straight to the dolphin show which was a highlight of the day. Watching the dolphins leap out of the water and work so closely with their trainers had lots of children exclaiming they wanted to work with dolphins when they grow up. It was a warm and sunny day so after the show, we found some shade under a tree and had some lunch. The afternoon was free time for the children to go around the zoo with an adult in small groups. The children used the maps to choose their route through the zoo and select all the animals they wanted to see. The learning we had previously done around animal habitats made all the information signs accessible to them and they enjoyed looking for animals that lived in a habitat they had studied. We got to see almost everything in the zoo and every child had their own highlight depending on what their favourite animal was. The next day they used their experience as inspiration to write their own fiction stories about animals in a zoo.
