In our 90th year, we would like to celebrate this significant achievement with a special Short Story Competition open to students from across the school.

St Julian's School was founded in 1932; some students were full boarders. They stayed at school during term time. The theme for the short story is the life of a boarding school boy/girl from the 1930's/1940's.

  • It can be about any aspect of school life
  • Adventures at a boarding school

We have recorded interviews with past pupils, which are part of a podcast to be shared. Also, we have two memoirs from students who attended SJS during this time period. These resources can be a source of inspiration for writers, and we will make them available to language teachers.

There will be substantial prizes in the form of FNAC vouchers for winners:

  • KS4 (and 9º ano) and KS5 €50 x 1
  • KS3 (Y7 to Y9 / 6º to 8º ano) €35 x 1
  • Primary (all sections) €25 x 1

Submissions may be provided in English or in Portuguese (There is no word limit). The closing date for entries is January 2nd 2023. To be shared with language teachers.
