We have run a football coaching project for our IB  students' CAS involvement for several years. This has been supported by school CAS Coordinator Bernardo Savill. We train on the Astroturf at SJS every Saturday morning.

Originally, this was set up to support children from Carcavelos Community Centre, which is still the case. Two years ago, this was extended to include Ukrainian refugee children. We now regularly have 25 to 30 children attending, and the numbers are growing.

We have just started again after the summer with great support from IB students and also a Duke of Edinburgh Award participant. They really do a great job with children who range from 4 to 14 years of age. In many cases, these children didn’t have the opportunity to join clubs. This is the main social interaction for some Ukrainian children who are being educated online from home.

I would like to thank PACT member Mrs Bela Borrego for her support with this project and Parent Mrs Alexandra Malmnas, who has supported me at the sessions.

Mr Barry Green, SJS Parent and Coach
