Lots Of Exciting Learning Has Been Happening In Years 3 And 4
In Year 3, the students have been enquiring about natural disasters through their topic, ‘Active Planet’. As well as making plasticine models of the Earth, showing the different layers, they have planned and carried out a science investigation to make a volcano erupt!
They have also learnt about storm chasers and how they study tornadoes - a very dangerous occupation! The children have collected and investigated soil samples as part of their learning about soil formation and found out about different types of rock.
- The children are now undergoing a personal research project to investigate a specific earthquake, volcano or tsunami event. They have been asking and researching questions such as:
- What year did the event take place?
- Were there any eyewitness accounts?
- Where in the world did it take place?
- Can you explain how the event happened?
- What was the effect of the event?
We are very excited to see how they present their learning at the end of the topic.

Year 4 students have been celebrating success with their handwriting and imaginative story writing. Recently, they have been writing their own “Just so” stories which explain all sorts of weird and wonderful things like how the lion got its mane and how the crocodile turned green!
They have been editing their stories with a purple pen and noticing how much progress they have made in their handwriting.
Have a look at the postcards they wrote back in September and now the stories they are writing in May - you’ll be amazed!! See more.
