Introducing Ross Hobart, new Head of Learning Support
I feel very privileged to have been selected as the new Head of Learning Support in Secondary. Finding ways for every student to achieve their best and overcome barriers to learning has to be one of the most rewarding roles out there.
My experiences in education started as a Reception class teacher in London where I worked in the Early Years for five years. I then decided to specialise in special educational needs by retraining as a Speech and Language Therapist. I used my collective experience to lead the therapy department in a special needs secondary school for several years before relocating to Portugal. This was a move long envisioned - I first visited Lisbon in 2010 and declared “I will live here one day!”
A key part of my role, and that of my team, is working with our talented teachers to help make sure every child can access the learning in class and make strong progress. In terms of my personal philosophy, I am a firm believer in collaborative problem-solving. When students, parents, and school staff work together, very few obstacles remain unsurmountable.
Over the coming months, I look forward to getting to know the students and families better and better. Thank you all for the very warm welcome so far!
