Where has the Naughty Bus from Reception gone? Has it gone to Nursery to play in the sea with the Rainbow Fish? These two themes have caused such excitement in Nursery and Reception the last week.

The Reception classes have been following the antics of the Naughty Bus (Author Jan Oke), who has been leaving a trail of destruction wherever he has been. At one point, he had even run away, and the children had to go and look for him, following a trail of clues. The story has inspired much discussion about why the bus was naughty and what it could do to redeem itself. These types of discussion are the first in understanding what it is to be a good citizen

In Nursery this week, the word sharing has been heard a lot as the children have been learning about The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. This well known favourite story is about a beautiful fish who finds friendship and happiness when he learns to share his scales. This topic has stimulated much curiosity and talk about fish, and in NMC, the children have discovered a new fish Axolotl, a walking fish. The children have applied what they have learnt to play in the playground, where the word sharing has been heard a lot. Sharing is a fundamental aspect of collaboration, one of our school values.

Both these books provide a great number of rich opportunities for maths and literacy work as well as encouraging the children to be creative through painting, drawing and role play.
