Dear Parents and Guardians,

In this edition of the Lighthouse, we highlight the Arts at St Julian's. Mariana Almeida's podcast eloquently describes how we approach the teaching of the arts at school and the value we place on it as a community. The results speak for themselves, as you can see below.

My introduction to the arts didn't come until adult life; at a Boys grammar school in the UK, I had to select at age 13 a route between arts and sciences, and I chose science. I now see how narrowing that was to my development and realise how lucky our children are today to be able to study both up to the age of 18 and beyond. One cannot understand our world without understanding the part the arts have played within our history but also in creating our history. Last weekend, I happened to be in Budapest and visited the newly created House of Music. It is absolutely phenomenal and follows the development of music from ancient times to today, and the place it has played in defining our world. I highly recommend it if you are ever there. Meanwhile, enjoy the richness of what we do at St Julian's, and as I said at the opening of our IB art exhibition, we have one of the best school arts programmes and faculty I have ever seen.
Enjoy!
