The Secondary School Performing Arts Club presented its “Whale Killing Factory” play to a full house and rave reviews. The cast of 20 students, from years 7, 8 and 10 did an outstanding job performing to a live audience in the Main Hall on the 1st and 2nd April evening. Following health and safety guidelines, the audience was limited to 60 each night but they certainly brought plenty of enthusiasm for this unconventional play.

Most loved it, some were left with questions and all recognised the hard work and wonderful performances that came shining through. Ms Latter and Mrs Weiner were so impressed by all the students and thank all of them for their dedication, talent, sense of fun and open-mindedness in taking part in this unique production.

A judge on the panel for PANOS came to watch on Saturday evening and was truly impressed by the quality of the performances, the connection the cast showed to the ideas and the concepts of the play. We will hear by the end of the month if St Julian’s has been selected to perform again at Teatro Nacional Dona Maria II.

Many thanks go out to all those who were involved with the play. Here is a link to the programme  for more information.

Finally, here are a few comments from the audience:

“The whale pinãta scene was very moving. What are we doing to our precious planet?"

“Very thought-provoking. Measures are important for misunderstandings. This phrase for me is highlighted in the play lots of times. What do we know or what do we think we know? Big questions, thank you.”

“It made me think about inequality and how our perception of things is often based on conventions."

“All different dramatic techniques and effects kept our interest. Bravo!”

“Do emotions have magnitude?”

“This play inspired me to draw.”

“Are all the costumes recycled? We loved this.”

“Fabulous performances!”

“Amazing costumes.”
