Over 100 students from year 5 to year 10 plus PE staff represented St. Julians School at the inter-school athletics competition which took place at Estadio Universitario in Lisbon. Our competitors were comprised of students qualifying from the Inter-House Athletics day on the previous Monday and Tuesday.

It was an amazingly hot day, nevertheless, this did not deter our students from participating and trying their best in all events which took place in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500, 800m, 4 x 100m relay, 4 x 400m relay, long jump, high jump and shot put.

A total number of 5 schools participated in the event which included ST JULIAN’s, CAISL, PARKIS, S. Antonio, IPS and The German School of Lisbon.

I would like to commend all the Division 4 and 3 boys and girls 4 x 400 runners, this was the last event of the day and after all the students have competed in other events earlier to compete at peak times in the heat and to do so well was a huge inspiration. One student who stood out was Benji Micallef who filled in for another runner who could not attend the day. He managed to keep the team in the lead and tried effortlessly.

There were some great sibling performances in different divisions. The Brinca family (brother and sister), the Rais sisters, the Evans brothers, Aden and Erin Shaw, and the Gielty sisters all put on a class display in both track and field events with medals for St Julian’s and personal bests. Sophia Naylor showed her natural athletic ability again in the long-distance events with perfectly paced victories. Lis Almeida in year 9 won gold in the varsity 800m which was an incredible achievement. Sienna Jones smashed the varsity girls shot put with ease to claim gold. Luca Pegas had rocket fuel in his legs in the sprint events. Big shout out to the students who were only in the relay events but came along and waited all day to participate, without you your team could not have performed as well as they did. A truly brilliant attitude, support, effort and performance from the St Julian's athletics team. Well done all athletes!

Overall results include:
Division 5 overall winners - St. Julians School
Division 4 overall winners - St. Julians School
Division 3 overall winners - St. Julians School
Varsity  - 2nd place St. Julians School
Overall Stadium day winners - St. Julian's School

All in all, it was an amazing day with fabulous sportsmanship and effort, particularly under the heat. Congratulations to all participants and staff!!
