The end of the GCSE season has come around again, but the big question was, ‘Would we be able to celebrate this wonderful GCSE Visual Art cohort's work in style?’ Okay, we may not be having an ‘off site’ exhibition this year, but we do have a rather wonderful gallery space in our own Palácio corridor and a high vaulted staff room, so not a shoddy second option.

Indeed it has proved to be the perfect venue for students, parents, friends, teachers and general visitors to see the amazing work that the GCSE art students have achieved over these two years on a day to day basis and can continue to do so until September.

It is always quite a feat to get an art exhibition together, and this time the cohort of 26 students (21 x GCSE and 6 x Pre IB) proved even more of a task as we spilt over into the staff room in order to squeeze everyone in for this Salon Style hanging. All hands were on deck, with Art teachers rushing to the gallery space in between lessons and the multi-talented Maintenance Team, who, as always, were on hand to reach all of those tricky hanging spots. Congrats also to the Events Team, who made the organisation of this event absolutely seamless as they threw tables out of the staff room to make space for more students’ work. Plus, of course, to parents for all of their support over the two years. Thank you all for helping to create yet another epic show!

Most importantly, though, a massive congratulations to those Art students for producing such stunning work. The official opening this last Friday, 27th May, was a wonderful opportunity for them to see their artwork taken out of the confines of the art department ‘hobbit hole’ and breathe in the open space of a gallery setting. Plus of course, for visitors to see their technical and conceptual journeys and how they reached their final outcomes by looking through their well-thumbed sketchbooks.

Well done, GCSE Visual Art students of 2022. You should all be very proud of what you have achieved.
