Mr Philip Hughes - Head of Secondary Physical Education
Mr Hughes is British and joins as the Head of Secondary Physical Education. Mr Hughes comes with seventeen years of experience teaching in the United Kingdom (11 years) and the United Arab Emirates (6 years). Phil joins from Blenheim High School, Epsom, UK. Mr Hughes has a BA (HONS) in Sports Studies with Business from Southampton Institute, a PGCE in Physical Education from East London University and an NPQSL from University College London.

Ms Stéphanie Ameri - Head of French and IB Spanish Teacher
Ms Ameri views herself as a citizen of the planet and, as far as she can remember, has always been a language explorer. Raised bilingual French and Italian in a multicultural environment, she studied Spanish literature at the University of Granada, Spain, before completing her PGCE in Exeter. She started her teaching career some 20 years ago in London while spending the last 15 years at an international school in Rome and a boarding school in the Swiss Alps. She obtained her Master in Education in International Curriculum Development and Supervision from Endicott College, Massachusetts. In addition to promoting curiosity about other cultures, she misses no opportunity in her class to raise the environmental awareness of younger generations. In her free time, she perseveres in her Portuguese and trains as a beekeeper.

Miss Lucy Reeves - Secondary Head of Biology
Miss Reeves is British and joins us from the UK, where she has been teaching in a school in Bristol for the past 4 years. Before that, she studied Biology at the University of Manchester and completed her PGCE at the University of Bristol. Miss Reeves also has conservation experience in Latin America; she worked with sea turtles and mangrove forests in the Golfo Dulce of Costa Rica and with frogs in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest. Education outreach with local communities and guiding volunteers was also a big part of these conservation efforts.

Miss Saba Usmani - Business & Economics Secondary Teacher
Miss Saba Usmani is Pakistani Canadian and joins as the Business and Economics teacher. She previously worked at Ashbury College in Ottawa, Canada. Miss Usmani comes with 9 years of experience teaching in Australia and Canada. Miss Usmani has a BA(Hons) in Economics and International Relations from the University of Toronto and a Graduate Teaching Diploma from the University of Queensland.
 


Mrs Andreia Abecasis - TOK and Mathematics Secondary Teacher
Mrs Abecasis is Portuguese and is returning to her home country after 13 years of teaching abroad at international schools in Oslo, Norway, and Barcelona, Spain. Mrs Abecasis is a Mathematician with a postgraduate degree in Learning and Development Psychology. She will teach Mathematics and ToK in Secondary School and is passionate about mathematics and a true believer in the ability of each student to learn and enjoy mathematics. She is looking forward to meeting students and families at St Julian’s School.

Mrs Jane Graham - Secondary Psychology Teacher
Mrs Graham is British and joins the Humanities faculty in the Secondary section. She has 25 years of teaching experience across schools in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and France. Mrs Graham has a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Sheffield and a PGCE from the University of Manchester.


Miss Melanie Parkes - Secondary English Teacher
Miss Parks is from England and is thrilled to be joining the English Department at St. Julian’s. With 14 years of teaching experience, she joins the school from Germany, having also previously taught in schools in both Dubai and England. In addition to teaching English, Miss Parks has enjoyed running debating clubs and seeing her students compete in international competitions.

Miss Annabel Halls - Secondary English Teacher
Miss Halls has moved to Portugal from the UK, which is where she grew up. She was raised bilingual in French and English at home. She joins the English department here after 4 years of teaching in London in an all-boys Catholic state school. She obtained a degree in English Literature from the University of Cambridge and her PGCE in English from the IOE.

 

Miss Cardelle Dunne - Primary Physical Education Teacher
Miss Dunne is a very experienced Physical Education teacher with 11 years of International experience. Miss Dunne previously worked at the British Embassy School in Qatar - Doha English Speaking school and is a very passionate and enthusiastic teacher who loves to create stimulating lessons that challenge and engage her students to reach their full potential and prides herself in leaving the children wanting to stay in her lesson all day. Miss Dunne is a keen sports player and plays for a professional football club in Qatar and most recently represented Qatar in the RedBull Neymar Jr. Fives World Championship, where she helped Qatar reach the semi-finals only to lose 1-0 to Brazil, who later went on to win the tournament. Miss Dunne's favourite saying is "that's quality!" which she is confident will be used a lot at St. Julian’s.

Mrs Helen Norbury - Primary Teacher
Mrs Norbury is British and joins the Primary Section’s Year 1 team. She has 13 years of teaching experience in the UK and Asia. In her most recent school, The Alice Smith School, Kuala Lumpur,  she taught the English National Curriculum in both Key Stage 1 and 2 and was also a member of the Primary Leadership Team. Mrs Norbury has an MA (Hons) in Geography and a PGCE in Primary Education, both from the University of Edinburgh.


Ms Pamela Chindipha - Primary Student Support
Ms Chindipha is a British teacher who has been working in SEN (special education needs) over the last 15 years in London. Ms Chindipha has BA (Hons)  in Sociology from Kingston University in Surrey, a PGCE from Goldsmiths University in London and a NASENco Masters from UCL in London.  She has worked across a number of different settings in London and was a SENCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) at a school in London for the last 4 years.

Mr Edmundo Rosa - Primary Portuguese Teacher
Mr Rosa was born and raised in Portugal and has recently returned from abroad, where he spent 11 years teaching Portuguese and English. He holds a post-graduation in International Education from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in Second Language Studies from the University of Dublin. In Portuguese, Mundo means the world, and this noun already signals what this enthusiastic teacher wishes to bring to the classroom while teaching Portuguese. Mr Rosa believes languages work as keys - while English unlocks important academic and social gates, Portuguese will grant students at St Julian's School access to understand Portugal, as well as a gateway to other Romance languages like Spanish, French or Italian.

Mrs Margarida Martins - Human Resources Officer
Mrs Martins is Portuguese and is joining St Julian’s HR Team as an HR Officer. She studied Law at Lisbon University and has an Advanced Specialization in Human Resources Management. Mrs Martins has a background of 5 years of experience in Human Resources and has always been involved in multicultural workplace environments.



Mr Isaque Avelino - Facilities and Operations Officer
Mr Avelino is Portuguese and is joining St Julian's Maintenance Team as a Facilities and Operations Officer. He studied Automotive Mechanical Engineering at Cardiff University. He likes tinkering with his classic cars, riding and upgrading his road bike and Downhill bike, and playing the guitar. 



Mr Alex Brice
Mr Brice is Portuguese and is joining the Wider Life Team. He will coordinate all extra-curricular activities and support daily the PE Department. He is a big football fan and occasionally enjoys podcasting about the “beautiful game”.
