Y9 and 8º Ano Students learned about the Science Behind Superpowers!
This presentation was extremely interactive and informative and really changed how I view superheroes and their powers. I never knew how much science there was behind MARVEL, and the way Barry explained and portrayed each image really made me engaged and curious. I loved how he presented everything with extraordinary slides that caught people's attention immediately, especially mine. I am excited to expand the knowledge Barry was able to transmit by reading his book, which by the looks of it, has really got people hooked into this mysterious world. Thank you, Barry!

On Monday, Year 9 and 8º students were lucky to be able to listen to Dr Barry Fitzgerald explaining the science behind some of the most famous scenes from Spiderman. Almost all students have watched at least one of the Spiderman movies, and many were excited to hear what scenes from the movie were true or false or might be possible in the future. By being present, I was able to see some sad faces after the announcement that radioactive spiders do not exist and that you cannot gain the abilities of a radioactive spider even if one did happen to bite you. Even the students who don’t particularly enjoy Spider-Man were able to learn about scientific concepts such as radioactive decay and the possible uses of spider silk due to its interesting features as a material. Students were eager to ask questions, the best of which were given a free copy of his latest book (How to build an ironman suit).
We wish to thank Dr Barry Fitzgerald for his captivating presentation and hope we will have him visit our school again in the future.
