As the clouds soared in and the excitement buzzed, it could only mean one thing - Match day for our super Div 5 girls' Football team. The division 5 girls played a thrilling, if not rainy, match Vs IPS and, to be frank, smashed them out of the park.

The game started with excellent attacking plays from the SJS massive, passing and running onto every ball delivered by our super midfielders. The first goal hits the back of the net, by our superstar Roza! A second goal was not far behind by our captain Ivy, who had an excellent game as striker and lead the team from top down (although, we will need to discuss some of those shots next training session).

2 - 0 to the wonder girls - goallllllllll…. Another one bites the dust for Roza again.

Alas, IPS responded with an excellent goal 3-1, to SJS.

The game was end to end until Sara scored an excellent goal to make it 4 -1. Near the end of the match, Sara received a ball to the face that hit her stronger than Mike Tyson in his heyday, but she showed a warrior spirit to continue on with barely a tear! The game continues … With ten minutes to go, the girls have found their confidence and are dominating the match…

Mika played an excellent through ball to Roza who shoots, she scores - 5 - 1 SJS!!

A special mention must go to our super defenders who showed excellent composure to stop any attacks IPS threw at them; congratulations to Catarina, Annabelle, Kayla, Rita, Maria Ines and Lulu, all playing their part in keeping the IPS score as low as possible. Behind them was our super Goalkeeper, Jilly, as well as Carolina subbing in for Jilly halfway. Both girls showed strength and determination not to allow a goal to enter the SJS net. Carolina, showing how versatile she is, also played a midfield role, making excellent passes to Alma, who was on fire!

Back to the game at hand, Teresa plays the ball into Roza, who goes into the goal and shoots only for the ball to be hit by an ISP player, and an own goal is scored (although Roza will claim it as hers to bring her total number of goals to 4 this game).

Half-time draws, ISP can breathe,e and the SJS massive are ecstatic with their comfortable 6-1 lead. Coach Fred brings his team in for a team huddle, and Ms Dunne is wondering what happened to the sunny Portuguese weather (contemplating, is this England..?)

Strict Dunne, as she is known around the campus, blows for the second half and Coach Fred and Ms Dunne swap roles of referring and coaching.

6-1 SJS started a little slower and IPS scored - 6-2… The girls start to channel their inner Ronaldo, and it isn’t long before Alma, who could have had ten goals by now, smashes the ball into the back of the net to let the IPS away fans know who’s in the lead, scores on the door 7 -2. The game continues, and the backlash of goals from Ivy and Alma brings the score to 9-2. A valiant effort from IPS creates another goal, and the final whilst blows at 9-3 to St Julian's. What a game that was. The girls celebrated in the downpour over their triumphs. Even Mr Morgan braved the weather - let’s see if we can get more St. Julians staff and Heads watching the next match. Congratulations, girls, well deserved and thank you to our wonderful supporters too!
