Our Christmas Concert was Back With a Bang
What a joy it was to have the hall filled with musicians performing to an audience in our Christmas concert this year. It’s been so long since we have been able to have our choirs and orchestras playing live and I believe the concert proved that this really is the best way to make and enjoy music.
The programme began with two of our amazing year 13 soloists - Yihao Liu playing Piazzolla’s ‘Libertango’ and Lara Sheehy singing ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’, immediately setting the tone for high quality and great communication.
This was followed by the year 8 orchestra playing a lively, fun piece called ‘Who Let the Elves Out’. The senior choir finished the first half with two classics of the 1960-70s ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen and ‘Bridge Over Troubled
Water’ by Simon and Garfunkel.
Following a very social interval during which the audience partook of refreshments in the palácio, the orchestras performed a number of pieces, including music from ‘Frozen’, a Slavonik Dance by Dvorák, a medley of songs by Queen and Shostakovich’s well known Waltz no. 2. The concert concluded with some very seasonal numbers by the choir and orchestra - Slade’s classic ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’, the more traditional ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’. Audience participation contributed to the uplifting atmosphere of this concert.
Please enjoy watching the video of this fabulous event featuring the wonderful students and staff of St. Julian’s school.
