U16 Win in Style Over Benfica
The U16 ran out big winners against Benfica to complete the first phase at the top of their regional group with a 100% win record. Benfica had some very useful players but were outgunned up front against a strong home pack and some slick handling and evasive running by the backs proved irresistible as St. Julian's registered an impressive 50 - 7 victory. Power running and strong defence was provided especially by Benji Micallef and Alex Tornes, with Liam Riley, Afonso O'Neill and Giovanni Luraschi offering great link play and continuity that enabled consistent pressure to be exerted against a brave but ultimately outclassed Benfica team.
Stiffer challenges await in the stronger pool of teams lurking in the 2nd Phase, but the squad is growing in confidence and looks set to continue their fine form in the latter part of the season.
