Y3 Teachers have been looking at lots of different ways to help the (sometimes) tricky multiplication concepts stick.

Firstly using arrays to visually represent the number sentences and establish the associated division facts and then playing lots of games like hit the button, a treasure hunt and ‘Pirate Pieces of Eight’.

In class, we have ended each week with a times table yomp!  This has allowed us to make use of our beautiful school grounds and participate in the Physical Education department's initiative of the 1 Km walk around the school. During that walk, the whole year group set off singing the time's table songs we have learned together in the week.

Our Year 3 teachers have acted as Times Table Referees! As we ‘yomped’ around the 1 Km circuit, the children were given a times table question or challenge to answer on the spot.  If the children were able to answer straight away, they were given a reward of a precious scarab beetle (which ties in with the Egyptian topic that we are also exploring in class).

Everyone did an amazing job and had lots of fun in the process.

Mrs Homer, Y3 Teacher
