In Key Stage One, children begin to differentiate between human and physical features surrounding them. Physical features such as mountains, seas, and rivers are natural and exist even in the absence of human beings. On the other hand, human features like houses, roads, and bridges are constructed by people. This concept forms a part of the "Our Wonderful World" topic and is the reason behind the children visiting Jardim da Quinta da Alagoa to begin distinguishing between these features.

Our Year One children also visited Carcavelos Beach as part of their continuing study of the geography of our environment. These visits allow them to use simple fieldwork and observational skills to examine the surroundings and enhance their basic geographical vocabulary.
