90th Anniversary Commemorative Art Work
To celebrate and remember the 90th anniversary of the founding of our school, Artist Camilla Watson was commissioned to produce a series of images printed on stone based on photographs from the school archive. These are now on display on the walls of the East Wing outside of the Year 6 classrooms.
Camilla is a British artist who has been living in Lisbon since 2007.
She uses alternative processes to enable printing on different surfaces. A liquid silver emulsion is applied with a brush in the darkroom, and the images are exposed using an enlarger or slide projector.
Camilla is a perfect match for SJS because she shares an interest in people, communities and their history with us. We value our history because it helps to anchor the school in both place and time and, as a result, informs our present.
These images are taken from between 1940 and 1960, reflecting different cohorts and eras but also the individual stories that are so important to the life of any school. Please do avail of the opportunity to take in the exhibition on display in the main Palácio in the remaining days of term. The Palácio exhibition features some wonderful photographs of the early years of SJS.
