Year 11 End of Year Celebration
The Year 11 end-of-year celebration on Tuesday was a great moment to recognise the stamina of our students. The Year 11s have just completed their exams, and many of them had just returned from a fantastic Silver Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition, which would be enough to wipe out many an adult. Yet these young people still had the energy to the party, and some of the dancing was exceptional!
The Year 11 celebration, along with the End of Year Assemblies for each year group being held during the last week of term, are a time to reflect on all of the hard work that has gone into the past academic year. There have been innumerable individual ups and downs, and each person should take this opportunity to reflect on their journey:
- What has been most challenging, and what did I do to overcome it?
- How have I made a positive impact on myself and others?
- What can I take away from this year and continue/stop/start/change for next year?
- What am I most proud of?
These are questions that we encourage students to ask themselves in their end-of-year report reflections. Often their focus tends to be on subjects and grades. I would encourage parents to help their children think more broadly than an individual subject or assessment that went well/ badly; to consider what learning tools or habits they have developed and how they can be built upon.
Just as important as reflecting on learning is the reflection on what kind of person they are becoming. It is important for parents to focus on these aspects of life with their children and consider ways in which they have developed new friendships, navigated relationships, been kind and supported others.
I am sure that all of our students have things to be proud of this year.
A huge thank you to our dedicated teachers, technicians and support staff for all of the support they have given to our young people this year and for continuing to strive to make St. Julian’s a place to Learn Together to Shape a Brighter Future. Here’s to another 90 years!
