SJS Year 12s and 13s Celebrate the Dia de La Hispanidad
Here at St. Julian’s, we decided instead to celebrate our student’s learning in their Spanish lessons over the first few weeks of the term. Students were invited to participate in a competitive class quiz designed to review learning, for which they paid a small donation to support our department’s sponsor child, Oscar, who lives in an orphanage in Guatemala.
The winning teams from each set of students in Year 12 and Year 13 were invited to a winner’s lunch. Whilst enjoying typical Hispanic flavours, the winners also battled it out to decide the champions of the year group in a final general knowledge quiz about the Spanish-speaking world. The ultimate champions of Year 12 were John Reis and André Silva, and for Year 13, they were Carolina Rêgo, Ellen Burke and Carolina Araújo. Enhorabuena to these students!
The total raised in this departmental event was 150 euros. This will be enough to support Oscar in his life and studies at the Hogar Miguel Magone in Guatemala for the remainder of this term.
Muchísimas gracias to all of our students for their generosity and competitive spirits!
Mrs Claire Sousa, Head of Spanish Department
