The air buzzed with anticipation as students stepped back in time to a day in the life of a Victorian school child. The day began with a lesson in humility and hard work as students took on the role of scullery maids, learning the ins and outs of Victorian household chores and getting a glimpse into the daily life of many during the Victorian era. There were sheets to wash, chimneys to clean and even chamber pots to empty!

The next stop was the matchstick factory. As they meticulously crafted matchsticks, the gravity of the hard labour endured by children in such factories during that period sunk in. The next immersive experience was the descent into the "mines." With the aid of simulated tunnels and dim lighting, students gained a newfound respect for the toil and danger miners faced daily.

Moving into the classrooms, the atmosphere shifted to one of scholarly focus. Quill pens scratched across parchment and chalk dust filled the air. Reciting times tables, hymns and poetry allowed the children to appreciate the advancements in education since the Victorian era.

Of course, Victorian children also had time to play! The Year 5 students thoroughly enjoyed learning how to play games such as hopscotch, marbles and skipping.

As the day drew to a close, the students emerged from their immersive journey with newfound appreciation and understanding. They had not just learned about history but had lived it!
