3º ano Learns in International Time about Slovenia
On the eve of St. Nicholas, 3º ano students were treated to a fascinating parent presentation by Helena Janota, who whisked us away to the enchanting world of Slovenia.
Despite its small size, the country boasts breathtaking landscapes of mountains, lakes and a multitude of caves.
Students were intrigued by Slovenia’s unique Christmas traditions such as putting out a shoe on the eve of St. Nicholas and the tradition of children playfully spanking their parents with a stick, demonstrated by Neja and her mum.
To sweeten the experience, students were fortunate to taste a delicious traditional star-shaped cake after listening so attentively.
Here are some of the highlights of our ‘visit’ to Slovenia:
Alana: I liked learning about the native animals. I learned that there are lots of brown bears in Slovenia and I love bears!
Marcus: I learned that there are aquatic salamanders that live in the caves.
Daniel: I think it’s funny that Slovenia looks like a chicken on the map.
Nael: I liked tasting the star cake. It was so good I had a second piece!
Nimi: I learned that in Slovenia there is a tradition of children hitting their parents with a stick before the New Year to bring them good luck.
A huge thank you to Helena Janota for such an engaging session which not only highlighted Slovenia’s distinct charm but also showcased the rich tapestry of traditions that make it a truly remarkable country.
