The benefits of “Touch Maths”
The Student Support department uses a variety of strategies to help children overcome challenges in their learning. Y5 Carlota Fróis explains how to use Touch Maths accurately and efficiently in this video. The primary Head of the Student Support Department, Mrs Ceri Grunewald-Davies introduced this to Carlota so she could fully grasp the concept of addition and subtraction, starting simply and then moving onto more complex calculations. Carlota happily used her fingers, which of course are the most effective set of manipulatives, especially as they cannot drop on the floor! However, since using Touch maths, her calculations are more accurate, meaningful and rapid.
Carlota is such a caring girl and loves to help others. She has a gift when it comes to explaining, presenting and describing. I shared the "tutorial" with the Primary staff and the response has been incredible.

* You Maths WHIZZ!!! Thank you so much for teaching me about Touch Maths - I have never heard of it before but I think this would really help teach my class how to count more effectively. Well done to you for sharing your knowledge so clearly, and showing me something new.
You star! 💥 (Mrs Kilbane RSK)
*She is becoming a better teacher than Mrs GD!! More than ready to teach other children!! (Mrs Lobo- Psychologist)
*Thank you so much. I remember Carlota counting babies in Nursery in Mrs Gomes class. Now, look at her....wow!Amazing......This will help so many children and teachers! Well Done, Carlota
👏👏👏(Miss McCall- NMC)
We made sets of numbers as so many teachers would like to use this method in their classes. We distributed them today and I felt like I was with a film star. Not only has it boosted Carlota’s self-esteem enormously but it reminded me why I love working here, in such a supportive, child centered school.
I will be asking Carlota to do further presentations and would offer her a job in the Student Support Department, in a flash!
We hope you enjoyed the video.
Many thanks,
Ceri Grunewald-Davies (Mrs G.D) and Carlota Fróis (5IG)
