Year 2 had a very interesting day on our trip to Tapada de Mafra as part of this term's topic, 'Wild Things'. They have been learning about different habitats and the animals that live in them, and this was a chance to experience a woodland habitat up close and see it in action. On the train ride around the park, they saw wild boar, fallow deer and frogs. They saw giant fallen trees and learned how they became new homes for different animals and insects.

The bird show was another highlight; watching the Barn Owl fly silently over their heads, the students saw how they were adapted to hunting at night. They even had time to learn about the importance of bees to all habitats and why we need to help conserve nature on our planet.

After a picnic lunch under the shade of the forest trees, the students returned to school a little tired and dusty but full of new information and experiences about the nature they had observed.
